Nuclear Dynamics and Star Formation of AGN
نویسندگان
چکیده
We are using adaptive optics on Keck and the VLT to probe the dynamics and star formation in Seyfert and QSO nuclei, obtaining spatial resolutions better than 0.1′′ in the Hand K-bands. The dynamics are traced via the 2.12 μm H2 1-0 S(1) line, while the stellar cluster is traced through the CO 2-0 and 6-3 absorption bandheads at 2.29 μm and 1.62 μm respectively. Matching disk models to the H2 rotation curves allows us to study nuclear rings, bars, and warps; and to constrain the mass of the central black hole. The spatial extent and equivalent width of the stellar absorption permits us to estimate the mass of stars in the nucleus and their contribution to the emission. Here we report on new data for I Zwicky 1, Markarian 231, and NGC7469.

Star Formation and Dynamics in the nuclei of AGN
Using adaptive optics on Keck and the VLT in the Hand K-bands, we have begun a project to probe the dynamics and star formation around AGN on scales of 0.1′′. The stellar content of the nucleus is traced through the 2.29 μm CO2-0 and 1.62μm CO6-3 absorption bandheads. These features are directly spatially resolved, allowing us to measure the extent and distribution of the nuclear star forming r...
متن کاملAGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملStar formation and nuclear activity in close pairs of early-type galaxies
We extract from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey a sample of 347 systems involving early type galaxies separated by less than 30 kpc, in projection, and 500 km/s in radial velocity. These close pairs are likely progenitors of dry mergers. The (optical) spectra is used to determine how the interaction affects the star formation history and nuclear activity of the galaxies. The emission lines (or lac...
متن کاملAGN and Galaxy evolution from Deep X-ray surveys
Deep X–ray surveys are providing crucial information on the evolution of AGN and galaxies. We review some of the latest results based on the X–ray spectral analysis of the sources detected in the Chandra Deep Field South, namely: i) constraints on obscured accretion; ii) constraints on the missing fraction of the X–ray background; iii) the redshift distribution of Compton–thick sources and Type...
متن کاملA Possible Evolutionary Connection between Agn and Starburst in Liners
Our analysis on the two magnitude-limited samples of LINERs suggests a correlation between LFIR/LB or f(25μm)/f(60μm), and Hubble-type index at >99.99% significance level. As LFIR/LB and f(25μm)/f(60μm) are considered as the indicators of star-formation activity and AGN activity, respectively, our result suggests that LINERs with higher AGN activity may have a lower star-formation contribution....
متن کاملStar-formation in the central kpc of the starburst/LINER galaxy NGC 1614
Aims. The aim is to investigate the star-formation and LINER (low ionization nuclear emission line region) activity within the central kiloparsec of the galaxy NGC 1614. In this paper the radio continuum morphology, which provides a tracer of both nuclear and star-formation activity, and the distribution and dynamics of the cold molecular and atomic gas feeding this activity, are studied. In pa...
